Dividing Assets During A DivorceThe mediation process empowers you and your ex to come to an agreement on how you should divide your property, assets and debts, with guidance about the process from your mediator rather than leaving this decision in the hands of a judge or attorneys. AMS Mediation can provide divorce support services to couples in Minnesota who are trying to reduce the overall stress and financial burden of divorce by using mediation rather than litigation. Even if there is high conflict between you and your soon to be ex-spouse, you can make mediation work.

Fair And Equitable Division Of Property During Divorce

When you partner with AMS Mediation, you will find that the mediation process is straightforward from start to finish. When it comes to dividing property in your divorce, Amber Serwat recommends a transparent approach. She advises divorcing couples to begin by creating a master spreadsheet that contains all assets and debts including property. Each item is assigned a monetary value and as you prioritize and make decisions, it becomes clear whether the division is equitable or not. Generally, when a couple sees this laid out on “paper” it becomes very clear what is fair and what is not. Depending on your needs and your priorities your list can be adjusted and balanced to make sure that the division of property makes sense, is fair, and allows you to compromise and prioritize items that are valuable and meaningful to you.
